Alessandra Scagliarini
Professor, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, University of Bologna
Alessandra Scagliarini has a degree in Veterinary Medicine, PhD in Epidemiology and Control of Zoonotic Diseases, and is Full Professor at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences in the School of Medicine in charge of One Health undergraduate and post graduate programs.
Scagliarini's scientific interests focus on the inter- and transdisciplinary approach of One Health in research, and exploring interactions between humans, animals, and ecosystems which can trigger health emergencies. In particular, she focuses on the development of innovative diagnostics suitable for low resource settings.
Scagliarini's institutional roles include serving as vice-rector for international relations at the University of Bologna from 2015-2021 and as advisor to the Minister of University and Research in 2013, 2015 and 2020-2021. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the UNAEUROPA Alliance (2019-2021), and Chair of the UNA - One Health Self Steering Committee of the UNAEUROPA University Alliance (2022 and 2023).
Scagliarini is also a volunteer trainer in capacity building projects related to One Health approach in education and research in collaboration with non-academic partners.
She is a member of: the One Health Self Steering Committee of the UNAEUROPA University Alliance; the Board of the Infectious Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID); the WHO One Health Working Group on Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs); the Zoonotic poxvirus expert group of the European DISCONTOOLS initiative and is Associate editor of the IJID - One Health Journal.
